Savannah Guthrie once cut a date night short between Craig Melvin and his future wife, Lindsay Czarniak.

In a joint interview with Parade that published on Jan. 17, Savannah and Craig recounted the incident that now has them laughing.

“You know, (Craig’s) wife, Lindsay (Czarniak), and my husband, Mike (Feldman), have all known each other for a thousand years. I’ve known Lindsay for longer,” Guthrie said alongside her TODAY co-anchor.

When Savannah was hosting MSNBC’s “The Daily Rundown” with Chuck Todd, Lindsay appeared as a guest. But Craig, who officially joined Savannah as TODAY co-host last week after Hoda Kotb left the show, recalled how that appearance cost him and Czarniak time during their evening out.

“It’s funny because when (Lindsay and I) were dating, I remember vividly one time we went out to dinner,” he said, while noting the evening was cut short because Lindsay had to be on ‘The Daily Rundown.’”

“I was like, ‘The show with Chuck and Savannah?’ I (thought), ‘Screw Chuck and Savannah (for) taking you away early.’”

Craig did turn on the TV, though, to see Lindsay in action.

“I remember the first time that I saw her on the show. She was wearing this yellow dress. Yellow is her favorite color,” he said. “I just wanted to make sure she wasn’t trying to blow me off, so I woke up the next morning to actually watch, and there she was. So it’s kind of full-circle.”

Things really came full circle on Craig’s first day as co-anchor of TODAY on Jan. 13, when Lindsay and their two kids, Delano, 10, and Sybil, 8, stopped by Studio 1A to wish him well in his new gig.

“It’s surreal, and to me, it symbolizes belief because you know, you dare to dream a dream and then to see it actually come true, it makes me think about a spouse making it to the Super Bowl, or like, the game-winning catch. That’s what this feels like,” Lindsay said.

“What makes me so proud is just the person that Melvin is and understanding that it’s the kindness and how genuine he is, so we’re just excited and pumped,” she added.
