Though Issa Rae‘s seminal HBO dramedy Insecure has long since wrapped, with a final episode airing in late 2021, the multi-hyphenate is very aware that some fans are displeased with the ending — even to the point of asking for reshoots.

In a new interview with People, the Barbie star admitted she knows that “people are really mad about” how the show concluded. After five seasons spanning 2016 through 2021, the perennially awkward and self-titled Issa Dee opts to rekindle her romance with on-again, off-again beau Lawrence (Jay Ellis) to the chagrin of many devoted viewers, who had long since dismissed the ex as no good, especially after he fathered a child with another woman, Condola (Christina Elmore). Ellis’ character is so polarizing that the actor revealed in 2020 that he has been “punched,” “slapped” and “cussed out” due to his portrayal.

“People have told me to reshoot, which is crazy because they didn’t like the decision that Issa makes in the end,” the media mogul explained.

The Rap Sh!t executive producer continued, “I get asked for season 6 a lot — even this morning [Thursday, Jan. 30]. I had to just post because I got hacked this morning. Unfortunately, I fell for whatever phishing scams and now can’t get into my account. And I don’t even use it. So if you see crazy tweets for me, just know it’s not me [and I said], ‘Somebody, please help’ on my Insta Story. ‘I got hacked on Twitter.’ And somebody was like, ‘I’ll help you if you give me three more seasons of Insecure.’ So I’m like, y’all can’t even take me seriously.”

The One of Them Days producer will not be revisiting Insecure — about the everyday experiences of a Black woman in Los Angeles and her friends (portrayed by Yvonne Orji, Amanda Seales and Natasha Rothwell) — any time soon.

While the show’s fifth and final season was about to air, Rae appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to discuss the pressure of wrapping up a beloved series and meeting audience expectations: “All the pressure — this was terrifying. Because you’re ending a show and people are gonna have their opinions,” she said. “You don’t want to drop it, and we’re on HBO, which, you know, had another popular finale that people felt strongly about, and people come up to me like, ‘Girl, I can’t wait for the final season, just don’t ‘Game of Thrones’ it.”
