As Los Angeles continues to recover from the devastating fires, Bill Maher made light of the tragic natural disaster this week on his show.

During the ‘New Rule’ segment of Friday’s Real Time, the comedian continued his ongoing “Donald Trump is gay” bit and predictably compared a didgeridoo to a bong before turning his attention to the Los Angeles wildfires.

“From now on, when tragedy strikes an American city, let’s just assume they’re strong,” he said. “First, there was ‘Boston Strong’, and then ‘Orlando Strong’, Dayton was strong, El Paso… you guessed it, strong. ‘San Bernardino Strong’, ‘New Orleans Strong’, now there’s ‘Los Angeles Strong’. And we are; Los Angeles is a place where the people are strong, just not the water pressure.”

At least 25 people died in the Southern California wildfires that broke out this month and caused immeasurable destruction, with more than 105,000 receiving mandatory evacuation orders.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump falsely asserted that the U.S. military entered California on emergency orders to turn on water flowing from Northern California, claiming Gov. Gavin Newsom refused to release the water, despite the area not being a source of L.A.’s water.

“The days of putting a Fake Environmental argument, over the PEOPLE, are OVER. Enjoy the water, California!!!” wrote Trump at the time.

After the post, California’s Department of Water Resources posted on X, “The military did not enter California. The federal government restarted federal water pumps after they were offline for maintenance for three days. State water supplies in Southern California remain plentiful.”

That said, Newsom has ordered an investigation into why firefighters battling the Palisades blaze were unable to get water from fire hydrants. The Los Angeles Times has also been publishing a number of stories on why a reservoir serving the Palisades area was dry at the time of the fires.
