Cheri Oteri has performed many memorable “Saturday Night Live” skits over the years, but one of her favorites involved some creative instruction from Snoop Dogg.

While co-hosting TODAY with Jenna & Friends on Feb. 13, the comedian recalled the sketch from over two decades ago where she played broadcast journalist Barbara Walters and interviewed Snoop Dogg.

“I went down into his dressing room, and he said, ‘Cheri, this is really funny.’ And he said, ‘Could you put one of my cousins in this?’ And I just was like, ‘Uh, yeah,’” she told Jenna Bush Hager.

Oteri went on to explain how the rapper’s one request quickly got a bit more complicated.

“Then the next day he asked me to put another cousin in, and I was just thinking to myself, ‘What am I going to do with these cousins? And are they allowed to be in there?’ And then by Saturday night, there were four cousins,” she said.

In a clip of the skit, Oteri is dressed up as Walters and sits beside Snoop, whose bodyguards stand around him.

“I must tell you that surrounded as we are here by your bodyguards, I feel very safe. From what, I don’t know,” she says then awkwardly laughs.

Oteri then offered some behind-the-scenes insight into the evolution of the skit.

“You saw in the back his bodyguards were his cousins. I did not know what to do with them. So I was like, ‘All right, you’ll be Snoop’s bodyguards because you just never know when Barbara’s going to snap,’” she said.

Jenna was thoroughly entertained by the backstory and said, “By the way, that isn’t the best friend (of) Martha (Stewart) Snoop. That was the snoop of yesteryear.”

“That was when he was a tough guy, not America’s sweetheart,” Oteri added.

“Exactly. Now he’s America’s sweetheart. How hilarious is that?” Jenna mused.

Oteri also played a broadcast journalist during the skit “Morning Latte” on “Saturday Night Live,” and Jenna was curious to know how the experience compared to co-hosting TODAY with Jenna & Friends.

“Does it feel weird that you played all those characters and here you are hosting morning television?” she asked.

“I know, I hope I do as well as the characters did. I don’t know. That’s a high bar,” Oteri said.

“You definitely will,” Jenna encouraged her co-host.
