The first full-length trailer for Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch” is here.

The nearly two and a half-minute trailer, released March 12, promises a faithful adaptation of the beloved animated classic.

The preview shows Lilo, a lonely young girl in Hawaii played by Maia Kealoha, wishing for a best friend after spotting what she thinks is a shooting star in the sky.

Lilo soon comes across a fugitive dog-like alien she names Stitch.

Just like in the 2002 animated movie, Stitch was an “experiment” scientifically engineered to create chaos and destruction. And that “star” Lilo saw in the sky? It was actually a police cruiser Stitch stole to escape the spaceship where his captors now frantically search for him.

Lilo’s teenage sister, Nani (Sydney Agudong), who has been Lilo’s caregiver since their parents died, instantly clocks Stitch as a furry blue menace. Despite Nani’s protests, Lilo manages to keep Stitch in their home.

“He is your responsibility. Got it?” Nani tells Lilo in the trailer.

“We promise!” Lilo responds.

“Yeah!” Stitch adds, his tongue hanging out of his mouth.

Stitch is soon creating mayhem wherever he goes. He’s seen nearly causing a traffic accident when he tosses an old CD out of Nani’s car window. He also zips with Lilo through the streets of Hawaii after hot-wiring a child’s toy car.

Just when Nani can’t take anymore — around the time Stitch is seen wiping his behind across the kitchen floor — Lilo reminds her of the Hawaiian concept of ohana.

“Ohana means family,” Lilo tells her. “Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.

Later, when Stitch shows remorse for his mischievous behavior, sadly telling Lilo, “Stitch bad,” Lilo sets his mind at ease.

“Sometimes, family isn’t perfect. That doesn’t mean they aren’t good,” she says.

“Lilo & Stitch,” directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, features the original movie’s writer and director Chris Sanders reprising his role as the voice actor for Stitch. The cast also includes Zach Galifianakis, Hannah Waddingham, Tia Carrere, Billy Magnussen and Courtney B. Vance as an agent who’s on the hunt for Stitch.

The live-action “Lilo & Stitch” opens in theaters on May 23.
