‘Happy Gilmore 2’ First Teaser: Adam Sandler Rides Again — As Does His Nemesis

Adam Sandler and Netflix are wishing you a merry Christmas and “Happy” new year — and Hanukkah. Your gift? The SNL alum posted to Instagram the first teaser for Happy Gilmore 2, the looonnnng-awaited sequel to the wacky 1996 golf comedy. Watch it below.

Sandler’s title character would be on the Senior Tour nowadays, but we don’t get much in the way of plot details for the film. But there are a few hints and some visual nostalgia, including Gilmore’s signature Boston Bruins jersey and waffle stompers and him thrilling tee-side fans by riding his driver like a horsey. Oh, and … Shooter McGavin makes an appearance in the brief clip that’s punctuated with a snippet from Pilot’s 1975 earworm classic “Magic.”

Christopher McDonald returns as Gilmore’s links nemesis McGavin, Julie Bowen is back as love interest Virginia, Ben Stiller is aboard again, and Dennis Dugan reprises his role pro golf tour exec Doug Thompson. New to the franchise are the likes of Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, Travis Kelce, Nick Swardson, Benny Safdie Scott Mescudi, pro wrestler Jacob Friedman and others.

Happy Gilmore standouts Carl Weathers and Bob Barker — whose pugilistic role made us all wonder why isn’t there an Oscar for Best Cameo — both left us in the past 18 months.

Kyle Newacheck directs the sequel from a script by Tim Herlihy and Sanders, who also penned the original.
