Janelle Monaé’s Halloween costume is out of this world.

This week on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” the singer and actor brought on the nostalgia, appearing dressed as the titular character of the 1982 classic “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.”

“I never would’ve guessed I would’ve got to meet E.T.,” Hudson said to Monaé when she welcomed her onto the stage.

“Jennifer,” Monáe rasped from behind the mask of the alien.

For her appearance, Monáe went all out in a costume that could give the classic Steven Spielberg character a fright. Along with a mask featuring E.T.’s bulging blue eyes, the singer wore matching arms and even had the iconic glowing finger from the movie.

“Do you hear the voice? Yes, E.T., it’s me,” Hudson replied. “The finger is lighting up y’all, look!”

“Thank you for coming to the happy place. I don’t know if I should say Janelle or E.T.,” Hudson said while taking the singer’s transformation in.

“The way I spit my drink out when yall said it was Janelle Monae,” one user replied to the post on Instagram. “YALL CANT BE DOING THIS TO ME MAN! Lmmfaooooo! This is hilarious but so CUTE OMGGG.”

“Janelle just does it different!” another wrote.

Monáe’s Halloween fun didn’t stop there. In a separate post on Instagram, the 38-year-old singer shared pics from a photoshoot with Pol Kurucz of her dressed as the alien.

“You finally came home,” she captioned the post “Welcome back E.T. Thank you Google Maps. Starring yours truly as both E.T. & Janellllliott.”

The photoshoot shows Monáe dressed as E.T., recreating some memorable moments from the movie. In one shot, the singer appears as E.T.’s friend Elliott in the iconic scene where E.T. lifts their bicycle into the sky, silhouetted against the full moon.

As part of a collaboration with AMC Network as the official FearFest host, Monáe has been sharing her Halloween spirit on Instagram all week, posting costumes inspired by classic characters like Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde, Frankenstein, and even James Dean.

Janelle Monáe transformed herself into E.T. for Halloween 2024.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she explained the roots of her love for Halloween and horror.

“I had the type of mom who wouldn’t let us watch nudity in films, but when it came to horror, psychological thrillers, sci-fi and fantasy, she didn’t limit my watching,” she explained.

“I really thank her because as a kid, it opened my imagination for what I could be and how I saw myself as a creative, as an artist, as a writer,” she added. “I knew that I wanted to tell stories, and I naturally gravitated to the things that frightened me. When I would look for books, I was always intrigued by the sci-fi, horror and fantasy sections. I wanted to explore that feeling of, ‘Why am I scared?’ That has continued to this day.”
