Netflix Sets Debut Dutch Reality Series Following Yolanthe Cabau’s Journey To LA
Netflix is dipping into the world of Dutch reality with a series following Yolanthe Cabau‘s journey to LA, while the streamer is adapting Saskia Noort’s The Dinner Club.
The Spanish-Dutch An Egypt Affair star will be the focus of a show that was unveiled at a Next on Netflix event in Amsterdam this afternoon.
In the untitled reality series, cameras will follow Cabau as she leaves the Dutch capital for Tinseltown with son Xess Xava. As she faces her past, the audience discovers why Cabau, who used to be married to Dutch soccer star Wesley Sneijder, left the limelight, and which childhood secrets continue to haunt her.
“I made a conscious decision to step out of the spotlight for a while to focus on myself and Xess,” she said. “The past few years have been challenging, but I can confidently say that I am more empowered than ever.”
Netflix also unveiled The Dinner Club, an adaptation of the 2010 novel that starts with an elegant villa going up in flames, which kills Evert, a happily married father of two. His wife Babette, who is a member of the Dinner Club, escapes with the children. Karen, the most recent arrival in the Dinner Club, soon discovers that friendships within it are not as unconditional as they seem, and it becomes apparent that some people have benefited greatly from Evert’s death. The screenplay is by Dorien Goertzen, who is known for Nieuwe Buren and Swanenburg.
Netflix, which has put on a number of these events over the past year as it defies the current slowdown to splash out on content, updated on a number of other Benelux projects including the cast of Haantjes, which has been boarded by Jennifer Hoffman, Jelka van Houten, Fockeline Ouwerkerk and Eva Laurenssen.
Elsewhere, Bobby Boerman’s film on the hostage situation at the Apple store in Amsterdam has been given a title, iHostage, while the second seasons of Ferry and High Tide were handed premiere dates of December 20 and January 31 respectively.
