“Rude and unwelcoming,” “hilarious,” or understandably protective?

“Love Is Blind” Season 7 viewers were split over cast member Marissa George’s mom’s reaction to meeting her fiancé, Ramses Prashad.

The meeting unfolded at a restaurant with Marissa and three of her other siblings. “My girl came in like it was 7 p.m. Friday and 95 degrees: Hot,” one TikToker said.

Vanessa, Marissa’s mom, has immediate thoughts about Ramses, which she makes apparent — just like Marissa said she would.

“My mom is very protective of me. Not having a father here too she knows she really needs to fill that role,” she said.

Marissa and Vanessa’s relationship also came under the spotlight during the meeting. At one point, Vanessa called her daughter a “ b—-” and said she’s “bossy.” Marissa said her mom “needs therapy.”

Here’s what to know about the divisive meeting and what people are saying.

What does Marissa’s mom say during her meeting with Ramses?

Vanessa had a one-liner or reaction for nearly every aspect of Ramses and Marissa’s relationship, from Ramses’ style to their financial future.

Moments after seeing Ramses sitting next to her daughter, Vanessa remarked, “You guys look like siblings. It’s kind of weird.”

She described Ramses’ appearance as “kind of off.”

“The whole ‘80s breakdancing like little tail thing and the Jheri curl look from the ‘80s, yeah I’m not feeling it,” she said.

At one point during the meal, Ramses shared that he did not have a college degree. Vanessa seemed concerned about his earning potential and whether he would be a financial drain on her daughter, who was a recent laws school grad at the time of filming.

“I don’t think you’re a bum. She would not go for a f—— bum. But I want to make sure you’re not relying on her law degree and her money because if a kid is produced in this relationship, you don’t want me coming up there staying with you for a while taking care of a kid cause my daughter has to f—— work,” she said.

When the topic of Ramses’ prior marriage came up, he described how he was feeling when he got married at 25 years old.

“Really, you’re explaining a marriage to me?” Vanessa, who spoke openly about her prior divorce, sarcastically replied.

When Marissa left to use the restroom, Vanessa told Ramses she wanted them to get a prenup before getting married.

“She has worked too hard to get f—– over and has suffered from men f—— her over,” she explained, adding that “it’s nothing against you.”

Ramses was open to the idea of a prenup and Vanessa said, “You’re welcome into the family as long as you make her happy.”

When Ramses asked if that was her way of giving him her blessing, she said, “There ain’t no blessing cause I don’t believe in forever. Whatever Marissa wants is all that matters to me.”

Vanessa then elaborated on her feelings about marriage, saying, “To me, marriage is not forever. It would be nice if marriage lasted forever, but I don’t believe in forever … You tolerate each other ‘til its over.”

Upon her return to the table, Marissa said she didn’t need her mother’s blessing and would decide for herself if she wanted a prenup.

Vanessa left Ramses with a final warning at the end of the scene, saying, “If you hurt my daughter, I will cut your balls off.”

After meeting her mother, Ramses told Marissa he thought it went “good” but said the vibe was “a lot.

“She needs therapy, she really does,” Marissa replied.

What are ‘Love Is Blind’ fans saying about Vanessa’s meeting with Ramses?

When you marry someone, you’re typically marrying their family too because you’re bound to spend a lot of time together. Some “Love Is Blind” fans saw Vanessa’s behavior as a clear example of why you need to vet someone’s family before getting deep into a relationship.

“Meeting Marissa’s mom would’ve been the deal breaker for me. She’s poison and I would not want her even remotely in my orbit at all,” one X user wrote.

Social media users were quick to point out how “mean,” “aggressive“ and “unpleasant“ Vanessa was to Ramses.

“The way Marissa’s mom handled that conversation was a huge red flag! She doesn’t seem to care about her daughter and uses derogatory language unnecessarily! She needs to work on her grown self! Bitter and stifling energy!” one X user commented.

On Threads, a viewer said that Vanessa potentially “undermined” a relationship.

Some social media users suggested that Vanessa was projecting her own experiences on her daughter.

“Marissa’s mom is still hurt from past relationships. You have to let your daughter grow,” one X user wrote.

Most fans understood Vanessa’s intentions, but they were critical of her execution.

“It’s clear that Marissa’s mom cares about her, but I wish she expressed it more constructively. She was aggressively rude without warrant and that wasn’t cool,” one wrote.

However, some fans were entertained by Vanessa’s attitude.

“Honestly living for Vanessa (Marissa’s mom) cutting thru the Ramses b——-,” one wrote.

Another commented, “Marissa’s mother don’t play & I can’t say I’m mad at it.”
