‘Sister Wives’ star Kody Brown meets ex-wife Christine’s new husband for the first time
The Nov. 10 episode of “Sister Wives” features a highly anticipated moment: David Woolley, star Christine Brown’s husband, meets her ex-husband Kody Brown for the first time.
Titled “Baptism By Fire,” the episode follows the Brown family as they prepare to attend a wedding shower for Gwendlyn Brown, one of Christine and Kody Brown’s daughters.
While driving eight hours to the party with Christine Brown and several of her children, Woolley gets the chance to know the family better. On the day of the shower, the couple learns that Kody Brown and his remaining wife, Robyn Brown, will also be attending the event.
“He told Gwendlyn he wasn’t coming. Like he said, full on, he wasn’t going to go or anything. But now suddenly he’s coming and Robyn’s coming. So it adds another level of complication,” Christine Brown says in a confessional interview.
Kody Brown reveals that he was equally surprised to hear that Woolley, who was Christine’s boyfriend at the time, would be attending the party.
“I’m like, ‘Oh, OK, all right, well, good to know,'” he says in his own interview.
Christine Brown then explains that the party was already bound to be awkward because it’s one of the first times the family is together since she left.
“I’m frustrated that it’s Gwendlyn’s day but so much of the focus now is going to be on Kody and Robyn until they show up,” she notes.
During the party, Christine Brown introduces Woolley to Meri Brown, one of her former sister wives, and offers her some words of encouragement since she also recently left her plural marriage.
Mykelti Padron, one of Christine and Kody Brown’s daughters, encourages her mom to bring Woolley over to meet Kody and Robyn Brown and she obliges.
The two couples exchange pleasantries and Kody Brown, who’s holding one of Padron’s twin sons, asks Woolley if he’s met Christine Brown’s children. Padron explains that Woolley babysat her children so she and Christine Brown could have a girls’ date.
“I’m used to a lot of kids. I have 10 grandkids. I have eight kids,” Woolley explains.
In a confessional interview, Woolley reflects on the interaction.
“The first thing he said is, ‘I heard you held my grandkids.’ And Mykelti says, ‘Well, he did more than that. He babysat them.’ And he got really red in the face,” he says.
In his own interview, Kody Brown suggests that Woolley “made more eye contact with Robyn” and “talked to Robyn way more than me.”
Looking back on the encounter, Robyn Brown shares the following thoughts in a confessional interview: “I’ve spent the last how many years of my life seeing her with Kody and seeing their marriage. But, you know, I want her to be happy.”
She also describes their meeting as a “new way of coexisting.”
Kody Brown says the new couple was physically affectionate — but adds, “Nothing about that bothered me.”
He predicts Woolley is “not just a boyfriend” and says he hopes their relationship works out.
“Frankly, it’s just one of those cringy moments where you just grit your teeth and survive it,” he says of their first meeting.
Meanwhile, Christine Brown describes the encounter as “a test” for her ex-husband.
“But it’s not a test for David. That’s the thing. It’s not. He’s so solid. David’s not going to go away,” she says.
Christine and Kody Brown, who were married for nearly 25 years, announced their separation in 2021. Their bitter divorce was chronicled on “Sister Wives.”
Christine Brown first met Woolley when she decided to give online dating a try. In January 2023, she announced that she’d dipped her toes into the dating pool once again.
After going public with their relationship in February 2023, Woolley and Christine Brown announced their engagement two months later. In October 2023, the lovebirds got married in a romantic ceremony that was later shown in a TLC special.
