‘SNL’ pokes fun at viral TikTok influencers, ‘tradwives’ in hilarious doomscrolling sketch
No one can escape TikTok and its viral trends, including “Saturday Night Live.”
The Oct. 19 episode of the long-running NBC sketch comedy series, which was hosted by Michael Keaton with musical guest Billie Eilish, featured a hilarious skit poking fun at the unusual, niche content that dominates TikTok feeds.
At the start of the skit, which was simply titled “TikTok,” an unseen person receives a text from “Bae” wondering about their whereabouts. The texter, who tells “Bae” they are on their way, gets distracted by TikTok and starts scrolling through popular trends on the social media platform.
The first trend is a fitness influencer, played by Ashley Padilla, trying to get followers to buy exercise equipment. Next, Kenan Thompson is seen as food reviewer Keith Lee, who famously tastes different menu items around the country from the comfort of his car. He eats the “Hennessy habanero Fruity Pebbles chicken sandwich from Lisa’s Soul Food in Atlanta” before giving it a thumbs down.
After a brief appearance from new “SNL” Season 50 cast member Emil Wakim dancing with a cat, Heidi Gardner pops up as a pregnant “tradwife,” referencing the 1950s-inspired movement that is all over the app.
“Today my husband asked for beef tacos and I didn’t want to let him down, so I slaughtered our cow and picked the corn myself,” she explains.
Devon Walker then appears as “Dr Omar,” a reference to controversial psychologist Dr. Umar Johnson, before accidentally revealing that he is in a relationship with the fitness influencer.
Chloe Fineman recreates an episode of the popular “Call Her Daddy” podcast hosted by Alex Cooper and Bowen Yang impersonates influencer Harry Daniels’ singing to get the attention of Vice President Kamala Harris, played by Maya Rudolph, and former President Donald Trump, portrayed by James Austin Johnson.
The Harry Daniels character encounters Eilish at the end of the skit who hands him a stack of money in exchange for him to stop singing.
“Here’s 10 grand, please stop following me,” she says.
The final part of the sketch reveals that “Bae” is actually the “tradwife” who gave birth to her 11th child while her husband was too busy being distracted by TikTok.
“YOU LITERALLY MISSED THE BIRTH OF OUR SON!!!” she texts.
In the comments, viewers praised the funny sketch for being relatable.
“One of the most accurate skits ive seen in years,” one commented.
“Instant Fave!! The Domingo soundtrack went quick on my fyp- no complaints tho!!” another wrote, referencing a popular skit from last week’s “SNL” episode.
A third appreciated that the skit playfully mocked all kinds of TikTok content.
“Shots fired at EVERYBODY,” the person wrote.
