Sound & Screen Film Underway With Hans Zimmer, Diane Warren, Harry Gregson-Williams, Kris Bowers, John Debney & More
The latest edition of Deadline’s Sound & Screen Film, the event where we shine a spotlight on some of the most intriguing and captivating scores heading into this year’s awards season, is underway Friday night at UCLA’s Royce Hall. We love this event at Deadline because we know how magical it is to see a 60-piece orchestra perform the music behind some of the year’s most exciting movies.
This year’s event, live and in-person only, promises a host of lauded musicians working in the film world. Two-time Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer will touch down to discuss the music he wrote for Steve McQueen’s World War II epic Blitz from Apple Original Films. We’re also welcoming Toto Miranda, Yvonne Lambert and Josh Lambert from experimental band The Octopus Project, who will talk us through the score and song “Creatures of Nature” from Bleecker Street’s Sasquatch Sunset.
Composer and conductor Harry Gregson-Williams will be bringing you some of the music from Paramount’s anticipated Gladiator II, the sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 historical epic. Kris Bowers is also here to talk about his score for DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot, while Alex Somers and Scott Alario will dissect the music they composed for Orion Pictures/Amazon MGM Studio’s fall festival hit Nickel Boys.
Netflix is bringing three shows to the event: Songwriter Sean Douglas will offer up music from the Will Ferrell project Will & Harper; Diane Warren returns with Aaron Zigman to talk The Six Triple Eight; and composer-songwriters Clément Ducol and Camille will tease songs from Cannes Film Festival hit Emilia Pérez.
If that’s not enough, we’ve also got songwriter Lykke Li here with composer-songwriter Andrew Wyatt to talk about the Pamela Anderson-starring The Last Showgirl for Roadside Attractions, while composer John Debney will walk us through his score for Kevin Costner’s epic Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 from Territory Pictures Entertainment. We’ve also got prolific songwriter Savan Kotecha, who co-wrote the title song of Amazon MGM’s Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine starrer The Idea of You.
So sit back, get comfortable and enjoy the sounds of some of the most talented composers and musicians lending their expertise to some of this year’s most exciting movies. Follow along all evening using the hashtag #DeadlineSoundAndScreen, and stay tuned for our written panel coverage Saturday and the launch of our streaming site Monday featuring videos of all the panels.
