Mickey Haller is in hot water at the end of “The Lincoln Lawyer” Season 3.

In the new season of the Netflix series, out Oct. 17, the Los Angeles defense attorney has returned for a new case involving the death of his former client and friend Gloria “Glory Days” Dayton.

The third season picks up right where the last one ended, with a man named Julian Lacosse calling Mickey to help him with his case. Once Mickey agrees to take Julian’s case on, he finds himself in complicated situations that put his life in danger.

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, who plays Mickey aka the Lincoln Lawyer, previously told TODAY.com that the third season would be based on the fifth book, “The Gods of Guilt,” in the “The Lincoln Lawyer” series by Michael Connelly.

In a new interview with TODAY.com, the actor says Mickey is “definitely” feeling guilty for his action in the new season.

“Because sometimes he does things that are not very morally correct,” Garcia-Rulfo says. “But sometimes he has to do it and he knows that it’s bad … (he) knows when he’s doing the wrong thing, but he has to do it in order to find the truth or justice.”

Season 3 also sees Mickey opening up to the idea of “letting go” and accepting help from others.

“He still is a little selfish and he knows that he knows (what to do),” Garcia-Rulfo says. “But now he’s starting to figure out that, for example, without Lorna he can’t function.”

Below, Garcia-Rulfo breaks down what happened in the wild and shocking cliffhanger in the Season 3 finale of “The Lincoln Lawyer.”

What happened in ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Season 3?

In the third season, Mickey is targeted by people who didn’t want him to figure out who murdered Glory Days. People broke into his home and tried to run him off the road, which resulted in the death of his new driver Eddie (Allyn Moriyon).

During his client Julian’s trial, Mickey believes that drug trafficker Hector Moya (Arturo Del Puerto), who he and Glory Days sent to prison, might be involved in her murder.

Mickey goes to visit Moya in prison, where the former drug dealer, who is well protected, suggests that DEA agent James De Marco (Michael Irby) could be someone to look into.

In another shocking turn of events, Julian is attacked while in prison and hospitalized mid-trial. As the case continues without Julian present, Mickey attempts to get former LAPD detective Neil Bishop (Holt McCallany) to testify after he and his team discovers that Bishop had been following Glory Days before she was killed.

Mickey convinces Bishop to testify after Cisco (Angus Sampson) gets footage of him and De Marco entering Glory Days’ home the day she was murdered.

Who killed Glory Days?

While testifying, Bishop confesses that De Marco killed Glory Days to cover up his illegal doings when Moya was arrested. Bishop then pulls out a gun he was hiding and kills himself.

De Marco is seen leaving the country but later, Mickey and his team are sent a photo of his body hanging from a bridge, presumably killed by the drug cartel. Moya also appears to be free from prison.

A bright spot in the season, however, is that Lorna (Becki Newton) passed the bar exam and is now officially a lawyer.

In Season 3, Mickey also has a romantic relationship with prosecutor Andy (Yaya DaCosta) while continuing their friendly rivalry.

Did Julian survive?

Yes, Julian survives and his charges are dismissed. Additionally, Mickey fights for Julian to get a hefty settlement, with “a lot of zeros,” as Lorna says, from the Los Angeles district attorney Adam Suarez (Philip Anthony-Rodriguez) after everything he went through.

In the Season 3 finale, Mickey is in good spirits and tells his team while out to dinner that he’s ready for a vacation. After leaving the restaurant, Mickey is seen driving in his convertible when he’s pulled over by a cop.

The cop gives Mickey a hard time and tells him to get out of his vehicle. When Mickey asks what he did wrong, the officer tells him that his license plate is missing. The officer then notices a substance that looks like blood dripping from the car and orders him to open the trunk.

Confused, Mickey refuses to open the trunk and is put under arrest. When the officer pops open the trunk, Mickey and Lorna’s former client Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton) is dead.

“When he sees what’s inside and who is inside, in that second, he knows that his whole life is crumbling,” Garcia-Rulfo tells TODAY.com of his character.

“It’s awful,” he continues. “And I think people are going to go crazy about it, because it’s such a good end of the season. It leaves you like, ‘Oh my god!’”

Who killed Sam?

Garcia-Rulfo says that Mickey “has ideas” on who it might be, but isn’t certain.

“At that moment, there’s a lot of names that cross his mind,” he adds.

Do Andy and Mickey have a future together?

Garcia-Rulfo jokes that the decisions that Mickey makes when it comes to his love life are “very bad.”

“Why go have a relationship with another lawyer that knows your ex?” he says with a laugh. “It’s fun because they’re so opposite that it’s cool to see that.”

However, the issues arise when it comes to the workplace and having to see each other often, while trying to keep their relationship private.

Ultimately, Andy and Mickey appear to agree that for now, staying friends is best. But the series’ showrunner and executive producer Dailyn Rodriguez tells Netflix Tudum that a future romance is always possible.

“Andy and Mickey are in a good place as friends, and we never say never to a possible romantic future when both are more ready for commitment,” Rodriguez says in the interview published on Oct. 17.

Will there be a Season 4 of ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’?

A fourth season of “The Lincoln Lawyer” has not been officially announced. But if there is one, Garcia-Rulfo tells TODAY.com that Mickey has “great people that can help him” when he’s potentially on trial.

“I think Lorna and him would make a perfect couple to defend him,” he says, also mentioning Mickey’s first wife, Maggie (Neve Campbell).

“Even Andy… I mean, he has good people,” he continues.

The actor hopes he gets to play a run-down version of Mickey “because there’s always something fun about seeing the character, or the hero in this case, seeing him fall so he can rise.”

He also wants the audience to get the opportunity to go through that with Mickey.

“I really want to see him down, with no weapons whatsoever, naked,” he says. “I think the way the season ends, there’s an opportunity for that.”
