What happened between Alex and Tim on ‘Love Is Blind’?

What happened to Tim Godbee and Alex Byrd’s relationship in “Love Is Blind” Season 7 — and what does it have to do with taking long naps?

Tim and Alex’s relationship reached a conclusion in Episode 10 with a tense conversation. But this wasn’t their first fight, nor was it the first breakup on this season sparked by sleep.

Here’s everything you need to know about Tim and Alex’s “Love Is Blind” journey, including why they ended their engagement.

What happened between Tim and Alex in the pods?

Tim and Alex had a deep emotional connection early on in the dating process. Tim felt safe opening up about the deaths of his two sisters and the impact those losses had on his life. He also shared his views on marriage, saying, “I don’t want to get married. I want to die married.”

Alex spoke to Tim about her desire for a partner who would stand by her through thick and thin, especially since she’d seen how difficult life had been for both of her parents, who both have multiple sclerosis.

Tim gave Alex his late sister’s bracelet. He brought her to tears while explaining that he could give his parents “one more daughter” and said he hoped she would be that woman for him.

Before proposing to Alex, Tim penned a letter to her father asking for his permission to marry his daughter. He read Alex the letter and popped the question. She eagerly accepted.

Next, Tim and Alex met face to face for the first time. Tim slightly annoyed Alex by calling himself a “dog” over and over again.

Tim and Alex had a fight during their Mexico getaway

The newly engaged couple flew to Mexico for a romantic vacation and seemed to have a great time — until they didn’t. Following a cast party, the couple had a fight that wasn’t shown on camera.

Tim and Alex reunited for a discussion the next morning. 

He explained that “everything seemed fine and then suddenly the energy (was) off.” Alex said she was homesick and didn’t know how to communicate with Tim, admitting that she “could’ve explained it more” but “didn’t feel like talking about it in that moment.”

Tim apologized if he “came off angry” during their fight but added that he felt “unheard” and “disrespected.” Alex apologized for covering her fiancé’s mouth during the argument. She said she felt “belittled” and didn’t know how to talk to him.

Tim said he was ready to go home after their fight but decided to stick around and try to work things out.

The couple met each other’s parents

Tim had an emotional meeting with Alex, her brothers, stepmother and her father, who has multiple sclerosis. 

Tim took her father aside and read him the letter he’d written in the pods to officially ask for his permission to marry his daughter. Her father agreed, saying, “I accept you as my son.” The scene had viewers bawling. One TikToker called him the “one good part” of the season.

Then, Alex met Tim’s parents. Remarking on her son, Tim’s mother said that he sometimes can be withdrawn. She asked Alex how she was handling that. Alex said it had been “challenging” but added that she just gave him space when he needed it.

While speaking to his parents alone, Tim said that he and Alex weren’t “always in sync.” He brought up that Alex wants to cuddle all the time, whereas he’s not as physically affectionate. 

“You’re never going to find perfection,” Tim’s mom said. 

Why did Tim and Alex break up?

Tim confronted Alex about behavior that “he didn’t really appreciate.” After meeting Tim’s parents, Alex took a nap.

“I understood you were sleepy but my parents drove 10 hours to meet you. As soon as the cameras cut, you decided to go to sleep at the first opportunity. These are the most important people in my life and all I have left in this world,” Tim said.

In her defense, Alex explained that she gets “exhausted” and needs to take naps, then added that she talked to his parents for hours beforehand.

Then, they re-litigated a text conversation and their communication cadence. At this point, Tim said he’d made up his mind that he was going to end their relationship. Alex wasn’t happy with his decision.

“I told you I was going to take this experiment to the very end and I did not take you meeting my father and getting him that emotional so lightly. How dare you do that and then just throw it away after two days,” Alex said. “It’s literally been two days since you did that and now you’re ready to just throw it away because I fell asleep and because I didn’t text you.”

Alex noted that Tim had given her “such a negative response” at times and thrown “temper tantrum(s).”

Tim went on to say that Alex wasn’t the type of woman he wanted to marry.

“There is no scenario that I see myself standing there and saying ‘Yes’ to making you my wife forever,” he said. “And with that in mind, I’m glad we can at least agree that I don’t ever want to see you again.”
